Search teams are conducting on-foot searches today between the Afurada marina and Lavadores beach, while the Maritime Police and the Douro life-saving station focus on water-based searches.
A report from the National Maritime Authority (AMN) highlights the disappearance of a 62-year-old French man, who fell from a sailboat docked at Douro Marina in Afurada.
The AMN stated that the man was performing maintenance work on the sailboat when he fell into the water.
On Thursday, Rui Lampreia, the commander of the Douro Captaincy, mentioned that the alert was raised by the man’s wife after he was last seen in the water.
The couple had arrived in the Douro estuary area as part of a sailing trip.
