The search operation, involving 20 personnel, three boats, and three vehicles, is set to resume on Saturday at 9:00 AM, an official confirmed.
Rui Lampreia stated that the search will continue in three modes: underwater, surface, and shore-based, spanning two areas of the Afurada marina and extending along the entire shoreline up to Cabedelo.
Resources from the Maritime Police, the Douro Lifeguard Station, and the Vila Nova de Gaia Firefighters are deployed, with diving teams on site, as confirmed by the captaincy official.
On Thursday, the captain of the Douro port revealed that the alert was raised by the missing man’s wife after he was last seen in the water.
The couple had arrived in the mouth of the Douro area as part of a sailing trip.
The man, 62 years old and of French nationality, disappeared after falling from a sailboat docked at the Douro Marina in Afurada, stated the National Maritime Authority (AMN) in a communication.
According to AMN, the man was carrying out maintenance work on the sailboat when he fell into the water.
