
On Friday, Captain Rui Lampreia of the Douro Harbor Authority announced that search operations would continue today in three phases: underwater, surface, and shoreline, covering two areas of the Afurada marina and extending along the bank to Cabedelo.
Teams on the ground include the Maritime Police, the Douro Lifeguard Station, and the firefighters of Vila Nova de Gaia, all equipped with diving teams, confirmed the harbor authority chief.
On Thursday, the harbor captain revealed that the alert was raised by the missing man’s wife after he was last seen in the water.
The couple had arrived in the Douro estuary as part of a sailing trip.
The man, aged 62 and of French nationality, disappeared after falling from a yacht docked at Douro Marina in Afurada, according to a statement from the National Maritime Authority (AMN).
According to the AMN, the man was conducting maintenance work on the yacht when he fell into the water.
