TAP announced today its cooperation with authorities on all investigations and declined to comment on judicial processes, following the Public Prosecutor’s declaration of searches at the airline concerning compensation to former board member Alexandra Reis.
“TAP does not comment on judicial processes and always collaborates with authorities in all investigations,” responded the airline in a written statement sent to Lusa.
The TAP is currently under investigation related to “the granting of compensation upon the resignation of a board and Executive Committee member of TAP,” stated the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The searches also include a law office in Lisbon and “research on IT equipment of the Government’s General Secretariat,” noted the Lisbon District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation pertains to suspected crimes of disloyal management, improper receipt or offer of advantage, economic participation in business, and abuse of power.
In 2022, TAP was embroiled in controversy over a compensation payment of 500,000 euros to then-board member Alexandra Reis for her departure from the company, by mutual agreement.
On February 4, 2022, TAP published a statement on the Portuguese Securities Market Commission’s Information Dissemination System, indicating that “appointed by the former shareholders, following the restructuring of TAP’s corporate structure, Alexandra Reis, a board and Executive Committee member,” resigned that day, choosing to “embrace new challenges.”
TAP and Alexandra Reis reached an agreement to terminate contractual relations, initiated by TAP, which involved a compensation payment of approximately 500,000 euros to Reis, as the company explained after the notification to the Securities Market Commission.
This case became public when Alexandra Reis was already Secretary of State for the Treasury in Minister Fernando Medina’s team, prompting the formation of a parliamentary inquiry committee.
