Second E-Redes auction records 7 times more bids than the first

Today, a company statement revealed that the second auction attracted interest from 23 service providers, with 163 active participants from a total of 195 qualified of the over 2000 registered on the platform.

The flexibility auction is a mechanism that mobilizes consumers and other agents to adjust consumption or production during times when the electrical grid requires support.

The offers totaled 82.9 megawatts (MW), distributed across 163 installations, including 41 from industrial clients, 94 through aggregators, fifteen electric vehicle charging station operators, seven storage units, and six production units.

The number of bids was about seven times higher than that of the first auction, E-Redes reported.

The process covered 17 zones and three types of products – ‘Dynamic’, ‘Secure’, and ‘Restore’ – catering to different scenarios of grid operation.

“In ‘Dynamic’ cases, there is greater predictability corresponding to the use of flexibility during grid maintenance periods,” the company elaborated. In ‘Secure’, this prediction is estimated, and the service is used for congestion management at certain points of the network, while in ‘Restore’, there is no predictability, corresponding to services supporting network restoration in response to sporadic events resulting from network failures,” it adds.

E-Redes anticipates accepting 82% of the bids, corresponding to the most competitive offers adjusted to the network’s needs. By the end of 2025, contracts will need to be validated, including qualification tests, with the use of services expected to commence in January 2026.
