
The accident occurred at 5:16 PM at kilometer 24 on the A24 highway, in the Vidago area of Chaves municipality, Vila Real district, involving two vehicles.
The Vidago-Boticas section (Vila Real-Chaves direction) was closed for rescue operations, investigation by the GNR’s Criminal Investigation Unit for Traffic Accidents (NICAV), and road cleanup.
As a result of the collision, two people died, a 52-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man, according to GNR.
The deaths were confirmed on the scene by the Emergency Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) team.
Additionally, two women, aged 23 and 26, sustained serious injuries in the accident, which also resulted in two minor injuries, aged 61 and 64.
According to the online page of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), 19 personnel were deployed to the scene, including firefighters, GNR soldiers, INEM personnel, and A24 concessionaire staff, along with 14 vehicles.
