Security Information Service will receive an increase of 10 million euros.

“Information services will receive an increase of 10 million euros, a 23% boost, marking the largest allocation of resources in history to defend the Portuguese people and the Portuguese state,” stated António Leitão Amaro during the parliamentary debate on the Government’s proposal for the State Budget for 2026 (OE2026).

The minister explained that this 23% increase will be used “to recruit more staff, reopen overseas stations that were closed, and enhance the technological capabilities of services that need to be able to detect critical information for collective security.”

Regarding cybersecurity, the official announced that next year Portugal will have a new cybersecurity regime that will “significantly change the protection paradigm in space,” in addition to reducing risks.

António Leitão Amaro emphasized that the National Cybersecurity Authority will have in 2026 “a 60% budget increase, meaning an additional 20 million euros for human and technological capabilities.”
