SEF arrests four swindlers suspected of mega-financial fraud

Date:

Hundreds of victims have been registered in Portugal and Brazil, some of them left in misery.

Two men and a woman, Brazilians and a Portuguese woman, were arrested this Monday morning in the Lisbon area by a special team of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), specialized in serving international arrest warrants.

The group had been fugitives in our country for several months, fleeing a detention order issued by a Brazilian Federal Court, to be subjected to a first judicial interrogation.

The fraud is linked to the company “Pineal Marketing Unipessoal”, created in January 2022 in Brazil, but with offices in Rua Joshua Benoliel, in Lisbon.

According to the Brazilian courts, this company was created with the sole purpose of attracting investments for fake stock market deals.

The scheme led to the hiring of an unspecified number of people to work in “call centers”.

Unaware of the scope of the group’s activities, the canvassers were tasked with attracting investors who were invited to invest their savings with the promise of huge profits.

Hundreds of victims were registered in Portugal and Brazil, some of them left in misery.

The four arrested are accused of commercial electronic fraud, money laundering, criminal association and embezzlement.

They will be brought before the Lisbon Court of Appeal on Tuesday for the application of coercive measures to extradite the suspects to Brazil.
