The municipality of Seia has announced the cancellation of today’s event schedule for the Festas do Concelho due to the severity of a wildfire affecting the southern area of the municipality, which has compromised the safety conditions necessary for all visitors.
The decision, made in coordination with event partners, including exhibitors, bars, and associations, underscores the urgency of reallocating resources and focusing efforts on assisting the community and battling the fire.
The fire has necessitated the evacuation of several villages and requires the full mobilization of resources to combat the blaze effectively.
In a unanimously agreed decision with all involved partners, scheduled performances for tonight—featuring artists such as Mizzy Miles, Túlio Augusto Trio, and DJs Peter Sky and I Love Baile Funk—have been canceled.
The municipal council will assess the situation and the feasibility of continuing the rest of the Festas do Concelho program daily, contingent on the fire’s progression and safety conditions in the area.
The municipality expresses gratitude for the public’s understanding and highlights the importance of adhering to guidelines from competent authorities, urging community solidarity during this challenging time.
The fire affecting the Seia region originated in Piódão in the municipality of Arganil, Coimbra district, on Wednesday and has spread to Oliveira do Hospital and Pampilhosa da Serra, also within the same district.
As per data from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the fire was being tackled by 1,047 personnel, supported by 343 vehicles and six aerial units, as of 19:00.
