The perpetrator is also required to pay compensation of 187,000 euros to the son of the deceased victim, who is 11 years old.
“He intended to take the lady’s life (…) as he eventually did,” stated the president of the panel of judges at São João Novo Court, in Porto.
On July 8, 2024, the 51-year-old perpetrator killed his 48-year-old ex-girlfriend with two shotgun blasts at the shop where she worked in Porto.
After the crime, the perpetrator fled but eventually surrendered to the GNR in Estarreja.
At the beginning of the trial in June, the perpetrator confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend and admitted to monitoring her via a GPS device he installed in her car.
“I don’t know what came over me. I grabbed the gun and shot her twice; it was my father’s shotgun, and I had it to fix the trigger that occasionally got stuck,” he said during the trial.
He added, “I can’t explain why I did this. I killed her; I know there is no excuse for this.”
Expressing deep remorse, the perpetrator confessed to never having thought of doing such a thing.
