The proposed honorary title by the Faculty of Arts and Letters will be awarded on Wednesday during the official opening of the 2025/2026 academic year at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
In a statement published on its website, UBI announced that Anabela Mota Ribeiro will serve as the patron of the honorary doctorate.
Sérgio Godinho, born in Porto on August 31, 1945, has recently turned 80.
At around 20 years old, he moved abroad, spending time in countries such as Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Brazil, and Canada.
While still abroad, he made his discographic debut in 1971 with the album “Os Sobreviventes,” inspired by resistance to the Estado Novo regime, which was eventually censored in Portugal.
His second album, “Pré-Histórias,” faced similar restrictions.
He returned to the country after April 25, 1974, becoming one of the key figures in the cultural explosion during the early stages and consolidation of the democratic process.
Sérgio Godinho’s career spans beyond music (writing and composition), encompassing literary production — including children’s literature — acting, and directing cinema and video.
For more than 50 years, he has maintained a prolific output with dozens of productions, including studio albums, live albums, collaborations with other musicians, compilations, collective recordings, and soundtracks for films and series.
This multifaceted production has earned him numerous accolades.
