The series “Those about to die”, a historical drama starring Anthony Hopkins, with Portuguese actor Gonçalo Almeida in the cast, will premiere worldwide in July, the streaming service Prime Video announced today.
“Those about to die” has a premiere date set for July 18 in the United States of America, and will be available a day later in some European countries, including Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India and countries in sub-Saharan Africa, according to Amazon’s streaming platform, in a statement released today.
The series, directed by Roland Emmerich, with Marco Kreuzpaintner, and inspired by the book of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix, “will take the audience into the spectacular, complex and corrupt world of chariot racing and gladiator fights in ancient Rome”, over the course of ten episodes.
In addition to Anthony Hopkins and Gonçalo Almeida, the cast of “Those about to die” includes Tom Hughes, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Moe Hashim, Rupert Penry-Jones, Eneko Sagardoy, Pepe Barroso, Kyshan Wilson, Alicia Edogamhe and Portuguese-French Sara Martins.
Gonçalo Almeida, 24, made his television debut in the SIC series “Esperança”.
In 2021, he finished his acting course at the Professional Theater School of Cascais, having taken part in several plays staged by the Experimental Theater of Cascais, such as “Camino Real” by Tenessee Williams, “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare and “Os gigantes da montanha” by Luigi Pirandello.
In cinema, he starred in the short film “Monte Clérigo”, by Luís Campos, which won the National Grand Prize at FEST – Festival Novos Realizadores Novo Cinema, in 2023.
