A heavy goods vehicle accident was reported to authorities at 06:57, according to the Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command of Baixo Alentejo.
The incident occurred at kilometer 59 of the EN260, in the parish of Vila Verde de Ficalho, involving the spillage of liquid fertilizer, which was the vehicle’s cargo.
“Road traffic has been halted in both directions since 07:35,” the source stated at approximately 09:15.
The individual in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was transported to Beja Hospital, accompanied by the medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from the National Institute of Medical Emergency, based at the hospital.
The Territorial Command of Beja of the GNR confirmed around 09:20 that the road remained closed.
The accident prompted the deployment of 13 operatives, supported by five vehicles, including resources from the fire department, GNR, and INEM.
