A 34-year-old man was arrested in Gondomar for being “strongly suspected of committing an aggravated robbery and extortion, carried out using a firearm,” announced the Judiciary Police (PJ).
In a statement released on Thursday, the authority explained that the crimes occurred “between late September and October 2023,” when the victim “arranged to meet” with two other men with whom he worked.
The meeting, which was arranged through a “computer application for scheduling homosexual sexual encounters,” took place at the commercial establishment where the three worked in Valongo, “after closing hours.”
During the encounter, the now-detained man and another suspect, who has not yet been identified by authorities, “pointed a firearm at him and, through threats, stole all the money he had, then fleeing the scene.”
Despite the crime, the victim chose not to file a complaint with the authorities “for fear of potential social repercussions.”
However, on Friday, August 17, the man “was again approached by the suspect who demanded the immediate delivery of a significant amount of money” while working at another commercial establishment, also in Valongo.
The victim was verbally threatened and threatened with a firearm, after which he gathered some money and handed it over to the suspect.
The detainee, who is unemployed, already has a police record for crimes against personal freedom, physical integrity, and property, as well as criminal history for driving without a legal license. He will be presented to the competent judicial authority for judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures.
