
On Saturday, the Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency departments at Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada, Hospital Fernando Fonseca (Amadora-Sintra), Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Barreiro, and Hospital de Santo André in Leiria will be closed.
According to the emergency schedules from the National Health Service (SNS), which were consulted on Saturday morning, the Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency department at Hospital Amadora-Sintra will reopen on Sunday. However, the emergency departments at the other three hospitals will remain closed.
During the weekend, the pediatric emergency departments at Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário, Hospital Beatriz Ângelo in Loures, and Hospital de Vila Franca de Xira will also be closed.
Meanwhile, the pediatric emergency department at Hospital Amadora-Sintra will only be available for internal emergencies or those referred by the Urgent Patient Guidance Center of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) or the SNS 24 line during specified hours: from midnight to 8 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Department at Hospital São Bernardo in Setúbal will only receive women referred by INEM.
In total, on Saturday, there will be 130 open emergency departments, 29 of which require patients to call the SNS 24 line before heading to the hospital as part of a pilot project. Two will be referenced, and seven will be closed.
For Sunday, updated hospital schedules anticipate 130 emergency departments open, with 30 participating in the pilot project, two referenced, and six closed.
The National Health Service portal urges patients to contact the SNS 24 line (800 24 24 24) before visiting emergency departments.
