The Lisbon and Tagus Valley region has the highest number of closed services (five), specifically at São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal, Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro, Garcia de Orta Hospital in Almada, Santa Maria Hospital (Obstetrics) in Lisbon, and Caldas da Rainha District Hospital.
According to information published on the NHS Portal, the emergency department at São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal will be open on Friday and over the weekend, providing the south bank with an open maternity ward.
In the central region, the emergency department at Santo André Hospital in Leiria is closed, and in the Algarve, Portimão Hospital (Obstetrics) is closed.
The Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Service at Fernando Fonseca Hospital (Amadora-Sintra) is referenced between 00:00 and 08:00 and 20:00 and 24:00, and São Francisco Xavier Hospital in Lisbon between 00:00 and 09:00.
During these periods, services are reserved for internal emergencies and cases referred by the Urgent Patient Orientation Center (CODU) of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) and the NHS 24 line.
In total, 35 Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency services will be open in the country, seven closed, and two referenced, according to information published on the National Health Service (NHS) Portal.
According to the same information, Pediatric emergency departments are closed at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures and Nossa Senhora do Rosário Hospital in Barreiro, while 40 are open.
Pediatric emergency departments at Viseu and Amadora-Sintra hospitals are referenced between 20:15 and 23:00, and between 00:00 and 08:00 and 20:00 and 24:00, respectively.
For Friday, four Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments are expected to close, increasing to six on Saturday. On Sunday, five services will be closed.
Two Pediatric emergency departments are also expected to close on Friday, four on Saturday, and five on Sunday.
In a report sent to Lusa on Tuesday, the Executive Board of the National Health Service (NHS) indicates that 114 deliveries were performed last weekend in Lisbon and Tagus Valley, 56 on Saturday and 58 on Sunday.
On Saturday, most deliveries were performed at the Loures-Odivelas Local Health Unit, with 12 deliveries, and at MAC, with 15. On Sunday, in addition to Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital with 10 deliveries, most were performed at Cascais and Amadora-Sintra hospitals, with 11 deliveries each.
On Monday, when five Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments were closed, Alfredo da Costa Maternity Hospital (MAC) recorded 98 admissions and performed 25 deliveries, five of which were cesarean sections, the highest number at least since 2013, when 22 deliveries were recorded on a day in January.
The NHS Executive Board urges the population to “always call the SOS Pregnant Line [808 24 24 24] before going to a Gynecology emergency service.”
