The Tax and Customs Authority seized seven African rhinoceros horns, an internationally protected species, at Lisbon Airport, valued at 422,640 euros, the agency announced today on its website.
According to the same report, the horns seized by customs authorities at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport were being transported in a cardboard package bound for Paris and weigh 7.044 kilos.
This species, like many others, is protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES, but continues to be a very lucrative illegal business for poachers.
