
Seven emergency departments will be closed on Saturday, and eight on Sunday, including one pediatric unit and the rest in Gynecology and Obstetrics, according to the National Health Service (SNS) Portal accessed at noon today.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency services at the hospitals in Barreiro, Setúbal, Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém, Aveiro, and Leiria will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday, while the Hospital of Abrantes will only shut its emergency services on Sunday, according to the portal’s emergency schedules.
The pediatric emergency unit at the Vila Franca de Xira Hospital is also scheduled to be closed over the weekend.
As for referenced emergencies, which only receive cases directed by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) or the SNS 24 line, the portal highlights the pediatric emergencies at Amadora-Sintra Hospital (between 00:00 and 08:00 and 20:00 and 24:00) and the Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures (from 00:00 to 24:00) on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency units at São Francisco Xavier Hospital (Western Lisbon) will be available for referenced cases on both days from 00:00 to 24:00, while those at the Braga Hospital will only accept such cases from 08:00 to 24:00 on Sunday.
Health authorities urge the public to contact the SNS24 Line (808 24 24 24) for proper guidance before heading to an emergency department.
