Seventh day of the campaign ends early due to the Lisbon derby

The seventh day of campaigning for the May 18 legislative elections is highlighted by a potentially decisive football match for the national championship. This event prompts most political parties to schedule their activities around the 90-minute game between Benfica and Sporting, set to kick off at 6:00 PM at Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz.

PSD leader Luís Montenegro begins his day in Viana do Castelo, engaging with locals, and will lead a campaign rally at 3:00 PM in Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga district.

PS Secretary-General Pedro Nuno Santos will also be in Vila Nova de Famalicão for a lunch rally. Earlier, at 10:30 AM, he will meet residents in Santo Tirso and conclude his day with a rally at 5:00 PM in Bragança.

PCP Secretary-General Paulo Raimundo will be present in Braga district as well, starting the morning with a march in Guimarães. At 3:00 PM, another march will commence in Porto from Largo dos Reis, followed by a rally at Campanhã station.

The BE’s campaign will reach Porto in the afternoon with the event “Changing Life is a Party” at 4:00 PM. During the morning, BE coordinator Mariana Mortágua will host an event in Lisbon titled “Race – Tax the Rich” between the Lisbon Casino and Parque Tejo.

Chega’s campaign, led by André Ventura, will start with a visit to Vila Real’s municipal market and a city walk, culminating in a dinner in Viseu.

In a nod to sports, the Iniciativa Liberal has themed the seventh day of its campaign as a celebration of sports. Led by Rui Rocha, the liberal entourage will engage in volleyball, football, and other sports at Carcavelos beach in the morning.

Livre’s spokesperson Rui Tavares will kick off his day with a visit to Alverca’s market, followed by a 3:00 PM visit to YouthCoop, a youth support cooperative in Agualva-Cacém, Sintra.

PAN spokesperson Inês de Sousa Real has a packed schedule, starting at 8:30 AM at Benfica market and ending at 10:45 PM with a visit to the Porto Academic Federation. Throughout the day, she will also attend a protest at Lisbon’s Lisbon Zoo and stop by Paredes, Paços de Ferreira, and Matosinhos.

Twenty-one political parties are competing in these early elections, including AD (PSD/CDS-PP), PS, Chega, IL, BE, CDU (PCP/PEV), Livre, PAN, ADN, RIR, JPP, PCTP/MRPP, Nova Direita, Volt Portugal, Ergue-te, Nós, Cidadãos!, PPM, PLS, and with lists in one or both autonomous regions, MPT, PTP, and PSD/CDS/PPM.
