The Judicial Police (PJ) detained another suspect on Friday in connection with an attack on a car carrying FC Porto supporters following a roller hockey match between Sporting and FC Porto in Lisbon.

A total of seven individuals have now been arrested in relation to the incident that occurred on June 10, when Sporting fans attacked Porto supporters using Molotov cocktails.

The detained individual will be presented to a judge at the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) in Lisbon, while the others remain in pre-trial detention.

At the end of September, when the PJ detained three other Sporting fans for the same attack, it indicated in a statement that the suspicions involved crimes of attempted aggravated homicide, aggravated physical assault, arson, robbery, possession of prohibited weapons, and the possession and use of pyrotechnic devices.

The detainees are part of a group aged between 20 and 30 who have engaged in extremely violent behavior against other supporters’ groups, as stated in a communication.

The specific incident under investigation took place on June 10, after the Sporting vs. Porto roller hockey match. The group violently attacked a smaller group of opposing fans in a car that was momentarily stopped at a traffic light in the Lumiar area.

The five occupants were “violently assaulted,” the car windows were smashed, and pyrotechnic devices were thrown inside, causing a fire that completely destroyed the vehicle, according to PJ.

Besides the assaults, the five people in the car suffered burns and required hospitalization.

On the day of the attack, the PSP identified and detained three men, aged between 20 and 25, also suspected of the same crimes and who were placed in pre-trial detention.

The PJ stated that the investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) of Lisbon.
