The Navy and National Maritime Authority spokesman reported that the alert was issued at 04:26 AM by a security guard from Enerfuel (a biofuel production company), stating that seven fishermen were at the company’s entrance seeking assistance.
“The seven fishermen, suffering from hypothermia, were transported at 05:28 AM in four ambulances belonging to the Sines Volunteer Fire Brigade and INEM to the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano,” the spokesperson noted.
According to Ricardo Sá Granja, “after searches on the beach, the vessel was spotted at 07:58 AM by members of the Capitania near the Sancha Lagoon (Sines).”
Furthermore, the Marítima Police have taken charge of the incident, “appropriate documentation will be prepared, and the owner will be notified to submit a plan for the removal of the vessel.”
A source from the Alentejo Litoral Sub-regional Command confirmed that the “seven fishermen were in a state of hypothermia, with two of them also sustaining abrasions.”
The same source indicated that on-site there was a GNR vehicle with two officers, a vehicle from the Volunteer Firefighters of Sines and Santiago do Cacém, a VMER vehicle from INEM with a doctor and nurse, and resources from the Capitania do Porto de Sines.
According to the source, “no explanations were provided for the occurrence, only that the men reached the shore by themselves and went to the company to seek help.”
