A 26-year-old man was arrested on November 29 after his partner threw ammunition from an illegal firearm he allegedly possessed onto the public street in the Lisbon parish of Belém.
The arrest occurred while officers from the Public Security Police (PSP) were conducting a patrol in the area, having been alerted by “a woman screaming in the public street,” according to a statement issued to the newsrooms this Saturday.
At the scene, the PSP encountered “firearm ammunition on the ground” and learned from the young man’s partner that he “was carrying an illegal firearm and its respective ammunition,” which she had thrown onto the street herself.
“Given the facts and due to the severity of the offense, the suspect was immediately approached, and the firearm in question was found in his possession, resulting in his arrest,” the note added.
The authorities also reaffirmed “their commitment to public safety and tranquility by having, through this action, removed a firearm and 24 rounds of ammunition from circulation.”

Operations in Lisbon’s Baixa and the Martim Moniz area took place on Wednesday, and according to a balance known this Friday, there were four arrests and 50 citizens identified.
