
The past week saw a decrease in the price of the food basket monitored by DECO PROTeste. It now costs 236.94 euros, just one cent less than the previous week.
“The price of the food basket of 63 essential items monitored by DECO PROTeste fell by 1 cent last week and now costs 236.94 euros,” reports the consumer advocacy organization.
However, “a year ago, this basket cost 5 euros less (a decrease of 2.15 percent),” yet “on January 5, 2022, when DECO PROTeste began this analysis, the food basket cost 49.24 euros less (a decrease of 26.23%).”
Which prices increased the most?
Between March 19 and 26, aside from eggs, the most significant percentage price increases were observed in products such as Frankfurt sausages (up 21%), veal meat for stewing (up 10%), and crustless sandwich bread (up 8%).
“If we compare this week’s prices with those of the first week of 2025, on the other hand, the largest percentage price increases were, aside from eggs, those of tomatoes (up 19%), black scabbardfish (up 13%), and veal meat for stewing (up 12%),” the report additionally notes.
