Show that unites First Breath After Coma and Salvador is presented in Lisbon

‘A Residência’ will be presented on January 13 and 14 at Teatro Maria Matos, following two sold-out shows at Teatro-Cine de Pombal at the end of November, a statement revealed today.

The show is the result of an “intense” artistic residency, which the Leiria-based band and singer conducted last November at Casa Varela in Pombal, prompted by the Centro de Experimentação Artística.

On stage, First Breath After Coma and Salvador Sobral recreate “the intimacy of a rehearsal room – a symbolic space of creation, socializing, and sharing.”

Besides the performance, the musicians are preparing the release of a joint album, “which will continue this rare artistic encounter.”

Salvador Sobral’s relationship with the band began through the Casota Collective, a structure formed by four members of First Breath After Coma.

The audiovisual producer was responsible for the music videos for the album ‘Timbre’, leading to the musical collaboration.

“They said they had a band, I went to listen, and I found it very interesting,” Salvador Sobral recounted to Lusa last November during the artistic residency.

The musician was captivated by the band’s music, characterized by soundscapes and identifiable as post-rock: “I loved listening to them. I really like this modern music where there is attention to the texture of the sound, the colors, the exploration…”

During the residency, First Breath After Coma exposed the singer-songwriter to new paths and original solutions – and vice-versa. “He has this celebratory personality, much more than any of us, and then things end up flowing quickly and naturally, which is quite amusing,” remarked the group’s vocalist, Roberto Caetano, on the same occasion.

Salvador, meanwhile, was surprised by the band’s scenic aspect: “They are very strong. They want to create more than just a concert here, and I think it will be a performance. I am loving this experience,” because “I also have a very performative and theatrical side.”

For First Breath After Coma, this collaboration, similar to their work with Noiserv, allows them to “broaden horizons.” Roberto Caetano views the partnership with Salvador Sobral as a new “ingredient” for the band, which has been together for over a decade.

“It’s like cooking the same dish always, but using different spices. It’s a bit like that, to play, to do new and different things. New experiences are our motto,” aiming for “the stimulation of the creative side, which is gradually lost.”
