The José Lúcio da Silva Theater, with a capacity for approximately 700 spectators, has been sold out for months for the initially announced dates, June 13 and 14. A third show was added for today, which also quickly sold out.
The return of the band Silence 4 in Leiria has generated significant public interest, leading to sold-out shows on three of the four scheduled dates at the Rosa Mota Pavilion in Porto (November 13, 14, 15, and 16) and one at the MEO Arena in Lisbon on December 13. An additional concert was scheduled for December 12.
Since January, Silence 4, formed in 1995 by David Fonseca (vocals and guitar), Tozé Pedrosa (drums), Sofia Lisboa (vocals), and Rui Costa (guitar and bass), has been preparing the performances to commemorate their 30th anniversary in Leiria.
David Fonseca stated that the band has been trying to “rediscover the energy” that brought them together three decades ago to see “if it was still all there.”
The musician expressed that the band is once again in great form: “We are more than ready for these concerts. I’ll even go further: I think we’ve never played as well as we are playing now.”
During the nine official dates celebrating the band’s 30 years, Silence 4 will perform their first album, ‘Silence becomes it,’ in full, including some surprises.
The series of performances starting today in Leiria aims to celebrate the band’s 30-year journey, which made a significant mark in Portuguese music with their debut album, ‘Silence becomes it’ (1998), selling 240,000 copies, one of the best-selling albums in Portugal.
Silence 4 released a second album, ‘Only pain is real’ (2000), recorded in London, UK. Altogether, with just these two releases, the band sold over 300,000 copies.
Among the band’s major hits are songs like ‘Borrow,’ ‘My friends,’ ‘To give,’ and ‘Only pain is real,’ along with the acoustic version of ‘A little respect’ by Erasure, which played a significant role in launching Silence 4 during the 1990s.
Shortly after two concerts at the coliseums in Lisbon and Porto in 2001, which resulted in a CD and DVD release, the group suspended activity due to exhaustion.
In 2003, bassist Rui Costa left the band, and David Fonseca started his solo career with his first original album, ‘Sing me something new.’
Sofia Lisboa participated in some musical projects, such as Ellas with Raquel Ralha, and drummer Tozé Pedrosa dedicated himself to teaching. In recent years, Rui Costa has been involved in projects such as Filarmónica Gil, A Caruma, and Companhia do Canto Popular.
This marks the second comeback of Silence 4, who, after more than a decade of inactivity, performed a series of five concerts in 2014. This occasion, ten years ago, was also to mark the recovery of singer Sofia Lisboa from leukemia and to celebrate their past hits.
