“For the first time, there is a reference, and a reference with a temporal target, to the realization of a single energy market and a common strategy by 2030,” said Luís Montenegro, upon entering a European Council meeting in Brussels.
The Prime Minister added that the strategy “will inevitably involve accelerating the energy interconnections we have been advocating for, whose execution delays have significantly penalized Europe’s competitiveness.”
Simultaneously, Luís Montenegro considered that realizing a single energy market would lead to “cheaper energy” and facilitate competition “with other trade blocs.”
The draft conclusions from today’s meeting, reviewed by Lusa and yet to be validated by the European Council, call for the construction of a single energy market to respond to “instability and pressure in energy markets” and “reduce energy dependencies.”
