The municipality wants to guarantee access to housing for young people and families in need. Houses range from 1 to 3 bedrooms.
Sintra Town Council has approved the purchase of 36 homes to form part of the Local Housing Strategy, an investment of over 6 million 900 thousand euros. The municipality’s aim is to guarantee access to housing for young people and families with housing shortages.
The acquisition of the houses under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) was approved at an executive meeting. In this way, the municipality of Sintra intends to respond to situations of housing shortage, guaranteeing access to housing for young people and families, promoting social and territorial inclusion and opportunities for housing choice, reads a statement sent to the press.
The mayor of the municipality, Basílio Horta, stressed that “the municipality is very committed to this issue”, stressing that “it is increasingly important and urgent that public entities invest in the housing sector”.
Following the market consultation, which ran until March 11, the municipality will acquire 36 one, two and three bedroom houses with immediate habitability conditions:
– five one-bedroom houses;
– 24 two-bedroom houses;
– seven 3-bedroom dwellings.
Sintra City Council has signed an agreement with the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) for the Sintra Local Housing Strategy , which will benefit more than 3,000 families and more than 9,000 people, with an investment of around 179 million euros over six years.
