The Sintra Police Division of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) conducted a comprehensive inspection operation of auto repair shops in the Belas area, resulting in over 200 fines for various violations.
“Highlighted is the issuance of 103 fines for lack of mandatory civil liability insurance and 109 for the absence of required vehicle inspections,” the PSP detailed in a statement circulated to newsrooms on Wednesday.
Authorities also identified and seized a vehicle “with a seizure request due to theft and another with an international seizure request.”
“In addition to road and administrative infractions, the involvement of these activities in practices with negative environmental impacts was also noted, specifically the irregular handling and disposal of oils, batteries, and hazardous waste, posing a serious threat to public health and local ecosystems,” the security force added.
The PSP emphasized that the initiative “demonstrates the effectiveness of interinstitutional cooperation and the commitment of authorities to ensure that economic activities are conducted legally, safeguarding public safety and environmental protection.”
The operation involved the coordinated participation of various PSP units, including Inspection, Public Order, Foreign Control, Traffic, and Environmental Protection, along with external entities such as the Tax Authority, Social Security, and Sintra Municipal Police.
