“The SIV ambulance in Estremoz has been out of operation since yesterday [Saturday] at 8:00 PM due to the absence of a nurse and will remain so at least until 4:00 PM today,” stated Rui Lázaro, the president of this union.
According to the union leader, there is a possibility that this situation may recur on Tuesday.
The SIV ambulance, part of the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) in Estremoz, has been operational since October 16, 2007.
Rui Lázaro also criticized the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) for not ensuring an alternative in this case.
“It’s strange, given that this situation was foreseeable. INEM has known for at least 15 hours that the ambulance is out of service due to the lack of a nurse. It’s peculiar that they haven’t, for example, tried to assign a nurse from another location or deployed a technician to work with an emergency medical ambulance similar to what is done in major cities,” he noted.
