Five men and one woman, aged between 27 and 46, have been identified as suspects in a counterfeiting operation as part of a preventative measure conducted from August 17 to 21 in the Lisbon parish of Santa Maria Maior. The Public Security Police (PSP) seized items valued at a total of 45,000 euros.
The authorities confiscated 3,298 plush toys, representing 42,874 euros, as well as 53 football club jerseys, amounting to 1,325 euros, according to a statement released to newsrooms on Saturday.
The statement also noted the seizure of 17 pairs of sunglasses, valued at 340 euros, and 32 electronic cigarettes, worth 480 euros.
“All these items were related to various sports and luxury brands, thus violating the industrial property code established by DL No. 110/2018 of December 10, in compliance with the EU Directives 2015/2436 and 2016/43,” the security force emphasized.
The PSP reminded that, despite the attractiveness of these items “due to their pricing,” they are “counterfeit products without any quality.”
“Regarding street vending, it is reinforced that such products should not be purchased, due to their lack of quality, and to help combat the phenomenon of counterfeiting,” they appealed.
This operation was conducted by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP, through the 1st Police Division.
