Six migrants who arrived in the Algarve taken to temporary centers

Three adults, two men and one woman, along with the three youngest children, will be settled today in these centers.

The relocation of the remaining migrants will proceed on Tuesday and over the coming days, detailed Captain Joana Machado, public relations officer of the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) of the GNR.

“Considering that there are still 37, as one is hospitalized, we must streamline [the process] taking into account human and logistical resources,” she emphasized.

“We prioritized individuals with family connections and minors,” she added, noting that there is coordination with the PSP regarding vacancies in the CIT and the relocation of the migrants.

These installation centers, managed by the PSP, are temporary accommodation spaces for foreigners subject to enforced removal from the country. They can also house foreigners awaiting integration into reception centers or a decision on their international protection request.

Migrantes ouvidos hoje no Algarve também terão de deixar Portugal

They must leave the national territory similarly to the other 31 migrants who had already been heard by the justice system. One migrant remains hospitalized and has not yet been heard by the authorities.

The deadline for the migrants to remain in these centers is 60 days, and the entire process of leaving Portugal must be accompanied by PSP personnel.

The Civil Protection Service of the Vila do Bispo Municipal Council temporarily provided a sports pavilion in Sagres to accommodate the migrants.

The president of the Vila do Bispo Council, Rute Silva, criticized the lack of response from the authorities and the Government regarding the future accommodation of migrants.

On Saturday, the Court decreed the accommodation of the migrants in a temporary installation center until the conclusion of the process of return to the country of origin, which may be done voluntarily or coercively.

The 38 migrants, comprising 25 men, six women, and seven minors, are all Moroccan.

The landing of the 38 migrants on Boca do Rio beach, in the Vila do Bispo municipality, Faro district, prompted the Portuguese Navy and the National Maritime Authority to reinforce coastal surveillance in the Algarve since Saturday.
