The SNS Portal indicated today at 5:40 PM that six services will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

According to the SNS emergency duty rosters, updated by hospitals, seven gynecology and obstetrics emergency services are expected to close on Saturday, notably at the hospitals of Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Barreiro), São Bernardo (Setúbal), Vila Franca de Xira, and Santo André (Leiria).

The hospitals of Vila Franca de Xira and Beatriz Ângelo, in Loures, will also see the closure of the pediatric department, a situation that is set to repeat on Sunday.

Information from the SNS Portal, reviewed by Lusa agency at 5:40 PM today, shows that on Sunday, there will again be four gynecology and obstetrics emergency services closed, similar to Saturday, but with Hospital Vila Franca de Xira being replaced by Hospital Distrital das Caldas da Rainha.

The pediatric emergency at Hospital Amadora-Sintra will remain referenced over the weekend, open between midnight and 8 AM and from 8 PM to midnight, attending only cases of internal emergency or those referred by INEM or the SNS 24 line.

The rosters available on the SNS portal also indicate that around 130 emergency services will be open nationwide during the weekend, in addition to approximately 30 gynecology and obstetrics services that will be operational under a pilot project, which requires prior contact from patients with the SNS 24 line.

The constraints on emergency services are primarily due to a shortage of specialist doctors to ensure coverage, a situation more common during holiday periods like summer, year-end, and extended weekends.

Health authorities are urging the public to contact the SNS24 Line (808 24 24 24) before heading to an emergency room to receive appropriate guidance.
