Emergency services for Obstetrics and Gynecology at Garcia da Orta Hospital in Almada, Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém District, and Santo André in Leiria will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, with Abrantes Hospital only closed on Saturday.
On this day, the pediatric emergency services at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital are also expected to be closed, according to the emergency rosters checked today at 2:00 pm.
Over the weekend, the pediatric emergency services at Amadora-Sintra Hospital will be on referral for both days, from midnight to 8:00 am and from 8:00 pm to midnight, accommodating only internal emergencies or those referred by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) or the SNS 24 line.
The same arrangements apply at Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures, from midnight to 24:00 hours on Saturday and Sunday.
At Braga Hospital, the Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency service will be on referral only for cases directed by INEM from midnight to midnight on Saturday and from midnight to 8:00 am on Sunday.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency services at São Francisco Xavier Hospital (Lisbon West) will also be on referral on Saturday, from midnight to 8:00 am.
On Sunday, the Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency services at Amadora-Sintra Hospital will only accept referred patients (midnight to 24:00 hours), the same situation at São Bernardo Hospital in Setúbal from 9:00 am to midnight.
The constraints in emergency services are primarily due to a shortage of specialist doctors to cover the schedules, a situation more common during holiday periods, such as summer and year-end, and long weekends.
Health authorities urge the public to contact SNS24 (808 24 24 24) for appropriate guidance before visiting an emergency department.
