Six years in prison for a man accused of raping a teenager in Águeda

The trial was held behind closed doors, with no public or media presence due to the nature of the crime involving sexual freedom and determination.

During the reading of the judgment, the presiding judge explained that the single sentence resulted from the sum of the partial sentences imposed on the defendant for an aggravated rape crime and an attempted coercion.

The defendant, who did not attend the trial, was also ordered to pay the victim 10,000 euros in non-material damages.

After the judgment was read, the judge stated that if no appeal is filed within 30 days, a warrant will be issued for the defendant’s arrest and transfer to a prison facility, as the defendant is currently free.

The incident occurred in February 2020 at the home of the defendant’s then-mother-in-law in Macinhata do Vouga, Águeda municipality.

According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the rape took place when only the defendant, the victim, and five minors, who were asleep in their respective room, were present in the residence.

The investigation revealed that the defendant dragged the teenager to the bathroom, locked the door, assaulted her, and tore off her clothes, forcing her to engage in sexual acts against her will.

The Public Prosecutor also states that the defendant instructed the victim not to reveal the incident to anyone, threatening to kill her if she did.
