Portuguese bands Slow J and Ornatos Violeta will perform at this year’s Crato Festival, which will be held at the end of August in that town in the district of Portalegre, it was announced today.

According to a statement from the organization, the musician Slow J and the band Ornatos Violeta “are the first artists to confirm their presence” at this edition of the event, performing on August 28 and 31 respectively.

Promoted by the Crato City Council, with the support of various organizations, the festival, now in its 38th edition (as the Crafts and Gastronomy Fair), takes place from August 28th to 31st.

This year, said the organizers, the Crato Festival is committed to “an eclectic line-up, aimed at all generations, with some of the best national and international artists, making it one of the biggest events held in the Alentejo”.

Slow J, who will be performing on the first night, “is one of the most innovative voices in Portuguese music”, the organization stressed, noting that the musician will be presenting his album “Afro Fado” at the Alentejo festival.

This album is “an essay on Portuguese identity in all its splendor” and “caused an unprecedented cultural and commercial impact in Portugal,” he said.

Ornatos Violeta, scheduled to perform on the last night, “are one of the most iconic bands in Portuguese music and are returning to the stage to mark the 25th anniversary of ‘O Monstro Precisa de Amigos’, their most emblematic album and the last original album by the group led by Manuel Cruz.”

“Published in 1999, it was considered one of the best Portuguese rock albums of all time. After ending their career in 2002, Ornatos Violeta were challenged to a reunion in 2012, and since then the band has played on special occasions,” he added.

Entrance to the Crato County Crafts and Gastronomy Fair is free, while the Crato Festival has paid admission, and daily tickets and passes for the four days of the event are already on sale.

The organization also provides an occasional camping area.
