Smashes appliances with a hammer in a store. There’s a video (and €40,000 in damages)

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Friday after using a hammer to destroy several appliances in the Worten store at NorteShopping in Matosinhos, Porto district.

The Porto Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police reported to Notícias ao Minuto that the damage amounted to “close to 40,000 euros.”

It was also confirmed that there were no injuries.

Images circulating on social media, visible below, show the moment the man began to “hammer appliances,” including televisions, mobile phones, and computers, as reported by Jornal de Notícias.

Once the situation started, the man was “intercepted by security guards until the police arrived” and was subsequently detained. The individual, who appeared to have some “emotional issues,” is set to be heard on Saturday to determine appropriate coercive measures.

Earlier this week, on Sunday, the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center was subject to a similar incident, where there was an attempted theft. According to the Public Security Police Command, the suspect, also a man, used a crowbar to “break the display windows” of a jewelry store to steal “gold items.”

The moment was captured by people present at the shopping center, and the suspect was detained while attempting to flee.
