SMS from Rutte? “We are being dragged into war by the irresponsible”

The coordinator of the Left Bloc (BE), Mariana Mortágua, expressed on Tuesday that “we are being dragged into war by the irresponsible,” in response to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte’s message to U.S. President Donald Trump, praising U.S. bombings on nuclear facilities in Iran.

“Amidst praise for the attack on Iran, Rutte, the NATO Secretary-General, sent a message to Trump: ‘Europe will pay BIG, and it will be your victory.’ They are talking about our money. We are being dragged into war by the irresponsible. Do not tell us it is for our good,” wrote the BE’s sole deputy in a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

It should be noted that the U.S. President released today a message from the NATO Secretary-General, in which he praised the “great success” of the American attacks against Iran.

On his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump shared screenshots with the compliments of the former Dutch prime minister, on the day the Atlantic Alliance summit began in The Hague.

“Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action in Iran. It was truly extraordinary and something that no one else dared to do,” declared Mark Rutte, referring to the American air raids early Sunday.

The NATO Secretary-General also commented in the message addressed to the White House leader and already confirmed by the organization that the United States is “embarking on yet another great success” in The Hague, where NATO allies will decide on increasing defense spending.

“You will achieve something that NO American president has achieved in decades,” Rutte stated, using the capital letters that Trump employs in his social media posts.

Europe will pay “a HUGE price” to finance defense “properly,” and “that will be your victory,” Rutte wrote to Donald Trump, who frequently criticizes European “freeloaders.”

Recall that the U.S. President has repeatedly emphasized that European NATO countries and Canada should pay more for defense and allocate at least 5% of their gross domestic product (GDP) to it.

On June 13, Israel attacked Iranian military and nuclear facilities, an action justified by the imminent creation of a nuclear weapon, which Tehran refutes.

Last Sunday, the United States conducted bombings on Iranian nuclear facilities, and on Monday, Tehran claimed a retaliatory attack on a U.S. base in Qatar.

On the same day, after nearly two weeks of cross-air strikes between Israel and Iran against their respective territories, Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between the parties.

On the eve of the summit, the NATO Secretary-General rejected that the United States violated international law during the bombings in Iranian territory.

Rutte added that the 32 countries in the organization “have long agreed that Iran cannot develop nuclear weapons.”
