Hospital emergency services will be closed this weekend, with seven closures on Saturday and eight on Sunday, according to the National Health Service Portal (SNS). One of these is a Pediatric unit, while the others are Obstetrics and Gynecology units.
The Obstetrics and Gynecology emergencies at the hospitals in Barreiro, Setúbal, Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém, Aveiro, and Leiria will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the unit at Abrantes Hospital will only be closed on Sunday, as per the emergency schedules on the portal.
The Pediatric emergency services at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital are also scheduled to close over the weekend.
For referenced emergencies, which only admit cases directed by the National Institute for Medical Emergency (INEM) or the SNS 24 line, the portal lists the Pediatrics unit of Amadora-Sintra Hospital (from 00:00 to 08:00 and 20:00 to 24:00) and Beatriz Ângelo Hospital in Loures (00:00 to 24:00) as closed on both Saturday and Sunday.
Additionally, the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergencies at São Francisco Xavier Hospital (Western Lisbon) will be closed from 00:00 to 24:00 on both days, while those at Braga Hospital will only be open for referenced cases from 08:00 to 24:00 on Sunday.
Health authorities are urging the public to contact the SNS24 line (808 24 24 24) for appropriate guidance before visiting an emergency service.
