Cannabis ‘in the authorities’ sights’
It is noted that cannabis is used and consumed in various forms, often being seized, ranging from the product itself to mixtures with other food items such as gummies.
A large-scale seizure occurred this summer in Madeira, where the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) seized hundreds of packages of food items containing cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol on their labels, in an operation conducted in the Algarve region. One person was named as a defendant.

According to the information available at the time in August, packages of cookies, gummies, lollipops, teas, chewing gums, soft drinks, oils, and supplements, 9 kilos of food products, and 120 liters of beer were seized.
This was not the only large-scale seizure in recent months, as in June, cakes and gummies with HHC [hexahydro cannabinol] were seized in seven establishments in Madeira. The establishments were located in Funchal, Ponta do Sol, and Machico. Following the action, “474 products were seized, valued at 10,094.64 euros, and five administrative offense cases were initiated,” stated the note issued then.
