Emergency obstetrics and gynecology services at Hospital Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Barreiro, Hospital Vila Franca de Xira, Hospital Distrital das Caldas da Rainha, Hospital Infante Dom Pedro in Aveiro, and Hospital de Santo André in Leiria are expected to be closed on Saturday, as indicated in the emergency schedules published on the SNS Portal.
These services will remain closed on Sunday, along with the emergency departments at Hospital Garcia de Orta in Almada, where obstetrics services will also not be available at Hospital Distrital de Santarém.
On the weekend, the obstetrics and gynecology emergency service at Hospital São Francisco Xavier in Lisbon will only accept cases referred by the Centro de Orientação de Doentes Urgentes (CODU) of the National Medical Emergency Institute (INEM).
On Sunday, the emergency services in these specialities at Hospital Doutor Manoel Constâncio in Abrantes will also only receive patients referred by the INEM, between 9:00 PM and midnight.
Throughout the weekend, the pediatric emergency at Hospital Amadora-Sintra will similarly be referenced, attending only to internal emergency cases or those referred by INEM or the SNS 24 line, according to information available on the SNS Portal as of 11:00 AM today.
Updated hospital schedules further indicate that around 128 emergency services across the country will be operational, in addition to approximately 30 gynecology and obstetrics services functioning under a pilot project requiring prior contact with the SNS 24 line.
These emergency service constraints are primarily due to a shortage of specialist doctors to cover the shifts, a situation more prevalent during vacation periods like summer.
Health authorities urge the public to contact the SNS24 Line (808 24 24 24) before heading to an emergency department to receive appropriate guidance.
