The forum is part of the Social Rights Pillar and will focus on quality jobs in a competitive social Europe, according to Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, Portugal’s Minister for Labor, Solidarity, and Social Security. This focus aligns with the European Commission’s development of the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan and its intention to add a fourth objective, which is ‘quality jobs’.
Topics such as work-life balance, labor mobility within the European Union, and strengthening the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights are among the subtopics to be discussed. The forum will gather over 200 international leaders, including more than 30 delegations from various countries related to the EU, the CPLP, and other third countries, as explained by Rosário Palma Ramalho.
The event aims to continue the commitments made at the Porto Social Summit four years ago and will feature the participation of the European Commission Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu, European Council President António Costa, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, all five European social partners, six national social partners, and representatives from international entities such as the ILO and OECD.
The forum takes place today and Friday, two years after the inaugural edition, which followed the Porto Social Summit in May 2021 under the Portuguese presidency of the European Union.
