Social reintegration technicians dissatisfied with the increase proposed by the Government

The government has presented a proposal that falls short of expectations, with values lower than those of general careers,” said Miguel Gonçalves, president of the Union of Technicians of the General Directorate of Reintegration and Prison Services (SinDGRSP), speaking to Lusa.

Justice Minister Rita Alarcão Júdice met today at the ministry in Lisbon with various union structures, including SinDGRSP, the most representative in the sector, to begin the process of reviewing the unrevised careers of the DGRSP.

According to Miguel Gonçalves, the proposed salary increase of 28 euros “does not keep up with the time” during which the career of social reintegration technicians “was stagnant.”

“More than two decades waiting without progress,” he noted, adding that “the salary does not correspond to that of a specialized career.”

The SinDGRSP leadership will meet with its members to draft a counterproposal to present to the government at the next negotiation meeting, scheduled for July 23.

The union states that Portugal has a thousand social reintegration technicians who, among other functions, provide technical advisory to the courts, work in educational centers (aimed at delinquent youths), monitor the execution of community and electronic surveillance measures and penalties, and develop intervention plans for prisoners.
