The Às Vezes o Amor Festival, under the theme of Valentine’s Day, kicks off today with a series of concerts in 15 Portuguese cities, with the highlight being the unprecedented performance of “As Canções de Amor” by Rui Veloso.
Designed from scratch for the festival, Rui Veloso’s show, with Maro as a guest, is being performed today at the Coliseu do Porto, where it has been sold out for weeks, and on Saturday at Campo Pequeno in Lisbon.
Also today, as part of the festival supported by Montepio, singer Ana Bacalhau performs at the Cine-Teatro Avenida in Castelo Branco, Buba Espinho (already sold out, with a repeat on Thursday) at the Carlos do Carmo Auditorium in Lagoa, in the district of Faro, and Carolina de Deus at the José Lúcio da Silva Theatre in Leiria.
Today, David Fonseca plays at the Olga Cadaval Cultural Center in Sintra, GNR take to the stage at the Europarque auditorium in Santa Maria da Feira, Ivandro sings at the Altice Fórum in Braga, Jorge Palma plays at the Aveirense Theatre and The Gift bring their music to the Luísa Todi Forum in Setúbal.
Until Saturday, the festival also includes shows by Gisela João and Justin Stanton in Caldas da Rainha, João Pedro Pais in Vila do Conde and Raquel Tavares in Torres Novas.
Jorge Palma also plays on Saturday in Peso da Régua and GNR will perform to a sold-out Cineteatro Amarante.
“Basically, [the festival] ends up decentralizing the cultural offer through Portuguese music, celebrating Valentine’s Day and these are the three main characteristics that have been maintained year after year and that have allowed the public to accompany us since the first edition in 2015,” said organizer Luís Pardelha, from Produtores Associados, which carries out the event with Locomotiva Azul, in a statement.
