The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, joined in offering praise for the “stunning release” of Rosalía’s new album, “LUX,” which has placed “Spain at the forefront of global music.”
“Congratulations, Rosalía, on the stunning release of ‘LUX’! You have put Spain at the forefront of global music with the most successful debut by a Spanish-speaking female artist on Spotify, making you the third most-listened artist on the platform yesterday [Saturday],” Pedro Sánchez wrote on social media platform X (Twitter) on Sunday.
Government spokesperson Pilar Alegría echoed the statements of the Spanish leader, adding that “it was a wonderful afternoon to listen to ‘LUX’.”
¡Enhorabuena, Rosalía, por ese deslumbrante lanzamiento de ‘LUX’!

The artist’s fourth album, released on Friday, is the culmination of three years of work exploring Rosalía’s relationship with spirituality and God. The project features songs performed in 13 languages, including Portuguese in “Memória,” with Carminho.
“Sometimes things happen without us realizing. I think, in this kind of process, we are not aware and, without noticing, it already starts. I have always had a connection with spirituality and been curious about languages. Gradually, I surrounded myself with specific readings, listened to more classical records, even though, when studying music, I was already surrounded by classical musicians. The word ‘lux’ was always in my mind,” the singer confessed in an interview with El País.

Rosalía also expressed her attraction to the “idea of post-religion, where there might be a more inclusive and open way to understand faith and spirituality.”
“I identify with Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism. I think all [these religions] have aspects with which I identify,” she noted.
On its release day, “LUX” became the most-streamed album in a single day in Spotify’s history by a female Spanish-speaking artist. With over 42.1 million streams, Rosalía broke the record previously held by Karol G’s “Mañana Será Bonito” in 2023.

It should be noted that “LUX” was recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Daníel Bjarnason, featuring female voices such as Carminho, Björk, Estrella Morente, Silvia Pérez Cruz, the Escolania de Montserrat, the Choir of the Palau de la Música Catalana, Yahritza, and Yves Tumor.
The 33-year-old singer previously released her album “Motomami” in 2022, preceded by “El Mal Querer” in 2019, both earning her the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album. Earlier, in 2017, she released “Los Ángeles”.
