The number of 22.3 million tourists in July and August surpasses the previous record of 21.8 million, recorded in 2024.
Spain saw the entry of 11 million visitors in July (an increase of 1.6% compared to 2024) and nearly 11.3 million in August (up by 2.95%), according to INE statistics.
In July, tourist spending in Spain reached 16.452 billion euros, with August contributing 16.390 billion euros, marking a 6.7% rise from 2024.
For the year to date (between January and the end of August), 77.77 million foreign tourists visited Spain and spent 92.463 billion euros (up 7.1%).
The main countries of origin for tourists remained the United Kingdom (13.2 million between January and August, up 4.3% from 2024); France (9.1 million, up 0.1%) and Germany (8.2 million, up 2%).
The largest increases were observed in visitors from Portugal (2.4 million, up 16.2%) and Ireland (2.1 million, up 10.5%).
Spain is the world’s second-largest tourist destination after France, with several cities across the country witnessing protests against mass tourism over the past year and a half, primarily due to the challenges it poses for local residents in accessing housing.
