
A spill with an “unknown origin” was detected today at 10:00 AM in agricultural lands in Valado dos Frades, located in the municipality of Nazaré, Lisbon district, as reported by the Sub-regional West Command of Emergency Operations.
Containment works are underway to prevent the liquid from reaching roads or water lines, according to a source from the command.
The spill occurred near two rivers, the Meio River and the Areia River, with efforts in place to prevent contamination through barriers designed to stop the liquid’s spread.
The Lisbon Fire Brigade’s environmental control unit has been mobilized, as reported by the same source.
As of 3:30 PM, there were 28 personnel from the fire department, National Republican Guard, and the Portuguese Environment Agency on site, supported by 10 vehicles.
