Spinumviva Action by the MP and responses to their requests must be “swift”

“We will wait, it is important that the processes, regardless of who is involved, proceed quickly so that people can resolve their issues, and that is what matters at the moment,” stated Mariana Leitão, commenting on the criticisms made by the prime minister and his office regarding the timing of the electoral campaign during which the Public Prosecutor’s Office made requests concerning the Spinumviva process.

“Regarding this matter, the Public Prosecutor is doing its job and I honestly have no comments to make on that,” said Mariana Leitão during a pre-campaign event in Gondomar.

However, “if the documentation was requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, it is obvious that it should be delivered as soon as possible, precisely as a way to ensure this speed,” added the liberal leader.

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro today denied having any responsibility for the delay in the preventive investigation process concerning the family business Spinumviva, reaffirming his sense of calm.

At the end of a visit to the São João da Madeira Municipal Market, the head of Government was confronted with a report from the newspaper Público about an insinuation from his office concerning alleged political motivations of the authorities investigating the Spinumviva case, which he personally denied.

“My office informed the newspaper Público that I received two requests for clarification, one during the legislative electoral campaign and another now on the eve of municipal elections. That is a fact, it is not an insinuation, it is a fact,” he stated.

In today’s edition, Público reports that the prime minister associates, in an official response from his office, the date of the documentation requests made in the context of the preventive investigation of the Spinumviva case with two electoral campaigns, suggesting political motivations in the ‘timings’ chosen by the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) and the Judicial Police.

On September 19, the prime minister said that the MP’s request for more documents regarding Spinumviva was nothing significant and that he would send them “as quickly as possible.”

The prime minister, however, refused to specify which documents were requested.

The MP requested more documentation from the prime minister to conclude the preventive investigation into the business dealings of his family company Spinumviva, said the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR).
