In response to Lusa, an official source from ISS confirmed the news revealed on Saturday, stating, “The Bragança District Social Security Center, in coordination with the municipality, health authority, and police entities, is providing all necessary support to the elderly and families and has overseen their transfer.”
The institute also highlighted that “from what the services have been able to determine so far, the establishment complied with the security plan according to legal provisions, and a room visit had been conducted 10 minutes prior.”
However, it reinforced that “an investigation process is ongoing,” as reported earlier, “and more detailed information will be provided in due course,” it added.
Of the total 25 injured, 20 have already been discharged from the hospital, as announced today to Lusa by the institution’s provedor, Adérito Gomes. Among the five patients still hospitalized, one remains in intensive care at the Bragança hospital and four at the Mirandela hospital, all of whom are victims of smoke inhalation, without burns.

The responsible official estimates that the four patients hospitalized in Mirandela will be discharged in “one or two days.”
A short circuit in an electric anti-decubitus mattress is believed to have caused a fire that killed six elderly people on Saturday—three from burns and three from smoke inhalation—at the Bom Samaritano nursing home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela. The fire resulted in 25 injuries, including five in serious condition.
The Judicial Police are investigating the incident.
