“Lisboners responded enthusiastically to the challenge launched by EGEAC [Empresa de Gestão de Equipamentos e Animação Cultural] in February, at the launch of applications for this edition: in February we date, in June we marry,” reads the note released by the municipality.
The ceremony will take place on the eve of St. Anthony’s Day, in the Lisbon Cathedral, which will host 11 couples, and in the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho, where five civil marriages will take place.
St. Anthony’s weddings began in 1958 and were then discontinued between 1974 and 1997, when they also included civil unions.
