The state-owned Angolan operator announced today that it will fully transfer its operations from the 04 de Fevereiro International Airport in Luanda to AIAAN in Icolo and Bengo province, starting on September 15.
This historic milestone marks the culmination of a gradual transition process of the company’s commercial passenger transport service to AIAAN, which began in November 2024, according to TAAG.
The António Agostinho Neto International Airport will now handle high-traffic international flights, including those to Lisbon, São Paulo, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Windhoek, São Tomé, and Maputo. These will join the existing domestic and regional routes to Brazzaville and Kinshasa, already based at AIAAN, the document states.
The new airport infrastructure, with its modern facilities and expanded capacity, is poised to accommodate an increasing volume of air traffic. It promises greater comfort for users and passengers, enhanced travel process efficiency, improved control and security, and superior service, according to TAAG.
The decision to relocate international flight operations to AIAAN reflects the strategic vision of the Angolan government to position Luanda/Icolo and Bengo as a hub for people and goods within Africa and as a north-south and east-west linkage on a global scale.
